Le Pecq to Paris Port de l'Arsenal

Appearances deceived, and we passed a quiet night in Le Pecq, setting off for Paris after a bit of shopping in the morning.

More incredible residences on the banks - amazing bricks and mortar, but even more amazing converted barges, lifeboats, rafts with houses built on them,...

Another lovely sunny day, and before too long we were meeting the tourist river traffic as well as the commercial barges. From a quiet calm Seine, we are in churning waters, giving way where possible to the bateaux mouches and barges alike, trying to read the map and recognise the landmarks - even take a few pics - on our way through. Hairy stuff, glad A was on the helm!

We got to the isle de la cité and chose to follow the bateaux mouches round to the right, passing a Police convoy, and felt we'd chosen the right way as it was relatively calm and wasn't controlled by traffic lights coming out and round to wait for the lock into our mooring for the evening.

Breaking the law... Allegedly ;-)

Without a doubt this has been our scariest lock so far - narrow, cross the current to access the entrance, no reply on the VHF from the lock guys... We were half way in when the gate started to close, J screaming at no-one to stop (they control it from a way away using camers) - without A applying a burst of speed to beat the gates who knows what state the boat would be in now!

The port is nice and calm - and so central, we can see the place de la Bastille from the boat - but Paris is a city that doesn't sleep! Still, with all the mod cons (and free Wifi!) no complaints!

We met an English couple who have been travelling the European waterways for 8 years or so, who are sure we broke many laws on our chosen route round Notre Dame, so watch this space for any number of possible fines!
