Montargis to Nemours

5/10/2012

OK so today we knew we were returning to old stomping grounds, but the distance worked out very well, and the market was on the next morning, so needs must...

On our way out of Montargis we remembered the huge shopping centre not far from the bank, so pulled a Mediterranean manouevre and staked ourselves to the bank, with A standing guard while J headed off to the supermarket.

On the trip, moving into the Canal du Loing, we encountered the intreaguingly named 'Busted Flush' - a UK narrow boat; is that a poker reference, or a general declaration that their loo is out of action?! The mind boggles. Anyway, we passed with waves, and figured its not a boat suited to the Med so no need to scaremonger them over closed canals! We have surprised almost every lock keeper with the news of the Canal du Centre, so the VNF are still keeping this gem a bit hush-hush it seems.

Today we had to laugh at narrow flood gates and little locks, which on our last passage had us holding our breath, whereas now its a breeze, and J rather enjoyed the lack of short term memory as nothing seemed all that familiar!

We arrived in Nemours fairly late to see the lovely 'Ferrous' at the quayside, still looking like it just left the spray shed, and later we were joined by a German couple we recognised from Montargis, with their beagle hound, Powell - Roxy's new love interest.

By the way, it should be mentioned that J's rope throwing really came into its own today - with 2 ropes per lock and 13 locks, only 3 misses and one lock keeper assist! Not bad going considering previous form!!
