Froncles to Chaumont

26/10/2012

Late start so although we told last nights questioning keeper we’d hit the road at 9.30 we didn’t push off until 10.40... At the Froncles stop was also a very cool Citroen bread-van-turned-camper – he was definitely waiting for us to leave to plug into our water and electricity supply – also heading for the Med, seriously not sure who’ll make it first!! And Roxy got the run-a-round from a Jack Russell pup just before the off so all ready for the day ahead.

On exiting the first lock of the day there was a huge peniche waiting to lock in – good for us as he’s set all the locks up for us! J took the wheel for the morning, and didn’t make too much of a mess of things, despite the side currents from random water pipes on the approach to most locks!!

We stopped late for lunch at a cute picnic spot just before a lock, and warmed ourselves through – not as cold as yesterday but a bit chilly still. After this next lock we passed another peniche – 2 in a day??

After lunch was a wee tunnel - light visible at the other end...

We moored at Chaumont at 4pm – the last big town before the summit; another paying spot where the conveniences are available only during office hours (!) but we weren’t even going to venture to the market in the morning – early night and try to sleep off these colds were rocking right now.
