Seurre to Tournus

3/11/2012

We were woken at 8.45 by the port captain arriving and requesting payment for the night - a bright clear day, with a warm wind in the face opposing the current helping us on our way.

Chalon sur Saone represented a landmark stop in our initial itinerary so we thought we'd be heading there today, but when we passed the exit of the Canal du Centre before 2pm we knew we needed to take advantage of the good weather and push on.

We calculate we'd have come out of there exactly a month ago if it had stayed open... Hey-ho!
The two locks of the day were the same guage as yesterday, and by the second we were back to a single rope with no trouble.

At Tournus we took a spot on the municipal pontoon usually reserved for the rental boats on changeover day, but no-one batted an eyelid and the quayside seemed quite lively with cafes and fishermen.

Fetch the magnifying glass - there's our teeny boat!!
We woke to thick fog but a warm morning - 14.8°C.

There was a brocante market (nick-nacks) right there on the quay, and an enormous Swiss hotel boat moored alongside - his lines are twisted steel wire cable more than an inch in diameter! The crew were all out in the market in their uniforms, giving Roxy a wide berth so as not to get covered in hair or drool!!

Those still onboard waved us off as we departed...
