Rolampont to Langres

28/10/2012

Clocks go back: as usual causing confusion for our four-legger, who's tummy clock doesn't change so no luck for a lie in!

It's 0°C out at 8.30 but we 'booked' our keeper from 10am so can't drag our feet - no worries though, this is our short day as we are only heading to Langres to prepare for the tunnel first thing tomorrow.

Our (lady) keeper was great - smiley, chatty and helpful with the ropes (which were frozen solid so more than a little difficult to throw!) and she said from the of we'd be in Langres in time for lunch. Excellent!

We have been surprised on this section to see so many lock keepers houses in total disrepair, but as some are not accessible by public roads (only the service roads for the canal) they cannot be rented; all the others are rented, either to lock keepers or the public. As it turned out our keeper was in the house by the automatic lock before Langres, which can be seen from the mooring - which is why she knew there was space for us!! Unfortunately although the mooring said it was open for business until 1st November, even at peak times it offered only 3hrs of electricity in a day (7-8am, 12-13, and 768pm) but it was all switched off and no water to be had on the quay either.

We had to run the gennie in the evening to keep the chill off - watching a movie tonight was like being on a plane with that droning in the background - but rather that than cold toes for sure!! We didn't keep it running all night so moved R into the aft cabin with us (covered in a blanket!) and hoped we'd not freeze in our bed overnight!!
