An early start had the dog walked, brekkie and famous cake for tea bought from LaTarte Tropézienne to eat on the go, and engines started – on the first
attempt - at 8.20, and we were waved off by the ferry arriving from St Tropez,
into a flat calm bay under a cloudy sky.
Driving from the inside helm for the first time in a while,
there were white caps and a fair amount of swell, but the journey was generally
ok. Roxy stuck to the aft deck, where she lay on coiled mooring ropes, and J
took the helm to have something to hold on to, relinquishing as soon as skills
were required.
We were moored up by 11.45, and headed straight out for
lunch, barely making it back to the boat before the weather started to turn
nasty. Having free Wifi we had the rugby on in the background, Scotland vs
South Africa – unfortunately our cheers for the Scots had zero impact on the
score line.
Before the England vs Australia match kicked off Roxy
demanded a sortie, and mere minutes after she and A departed the heavens
literally opened – thunder, lightning and rain so hard it sounded like hail; he
had left his phone on board so J was hoping they had found shelter, which
turned out to be the case since when they got back they were bone dry –
shelter, and beer, had allowed the time to pass without incident,
Whilst the score in the rugby was gutting, to say the least,
the devastation that storm wreaked on Antibes and Biot is heartbreaking, with
20 lives lost, homes wrecked, livelihoods ruined. Our hearts go out to all
touched by this natural disaster, and are warmed by the community efforts
helping them deal with the aftermath.
